Kay
Burningham is a trial attorney with over twenty five years experience in personal
injury litigation. As a former insurance defense attorney, her clients included individuals and businesses insured with
such insurance carriers as Allstate, State Farm and GEICO.
She spent 15 of the last
25 years practicing in California where she served as a Superior
Court Judge Pro Tem and Court Appointed Arbitrator. She has litigated cases in
Utah, San Diego, Orange County and San Francisco, California. She has
successfully tried wrongful death, product liability, health care malpractice
and numerous motor vehicle collision cases both for the defense and the
plaintiff. She is a former member of the California Trial Lawyers (Consumer
Attorneys of California) and a current member of the American Association for Justice formerly (ATLA) and Utah Association for Justice formerly (UTLA).
Ms. Burningham left the
defense firm of Shifflet, Sharp and Walters in San Diego, California, several
months after being involved in a motor vehicle collision on the San Diego
Freeway. After years of arguing for the defense, she found herself the victim
of a freeway chase and spin out. She sustained significant neck and back
injuries with permanent nerve damage. As a result of that experience, she left
defense work and began working to represent those injured through the negligence
of others. She has represented plaintiffs since 1991, first in her own practice
in San Diego County and now, in her Utah Practice.
Ms. Burningham is regularly
associated as trial counsel with a number of attorneys in California and Utah.
Licensed in three states (inactive in Colorado) she is an active member of the
Utah and California Bar Associations. She is a 1973 graduate of Bountiful High
School, a 1982 graduate of J. Reuben Clark Law School and currently resides in
Park City Utah.
